Interview with marlee at Anime North

(from left to right: Sen, Rea, Me and MJ)

Here is the interview I had with Marlee. They are a pretty awesome band. The members are so nice and it was a pretty comfortable interview. I'm not saying the rest weren't. I'm just saying it was very natural. Their live was energetic and fun. Sen jumped off the stage a few times to see the fans at the back. Sen did most of the talking during the interview but Rea and MJ had lots to say too! You can read on to find out!

Q: What made you want to become musicians?

MJ: I liked playing guitar as a kid so I continued playing.

Sen: I can only express myself through music.

Rea: I don’t remember but I like music.

Q: Was it difficult getting into the VK music scene?

Sen: Not really any difficulties. There’s a wide range of music not just VK.

Q: What did your family and friends think at first? What do they think now?

MJ: At first my parents were against it but now they are not.

Sen: At first they were against it. Around the time we released our second album. My parents accepted that I’m a musician and they approve.

Rea: They really supported me. My dad was in a band and my mom was a stylist.

Q: What is your favourite song to play live?

Rea: “Nothing”

Sen: “Independence Day” because everyone gets excited.

MJ: “Cast off Skin”

Q: What influences your music?

MJ: We all have our own preferences so we try to put them all together.

Q: Who do you idolize?

Sen: Nine Inch Nails –Trent Reznor. He got an academy award for “The Social Network”. His music and how he’s progressed. I’m constantly inspired by his music.

MJ: Everybody he meets

Rea: Friends

Q: do you like anime? If so then what is your favourite one? and why?

They all like anime.

Rea: Cowboy Bebop. It changed my life. That’s how I got into the anime world.

MJ: K- ON. It’s about a band and it’s cool. Brings back memories

Sen: Evangelion. It left the deepest impression.

Q: Have you been sightseeing or met any fans? If so what was it like?

Rea: We’ve been sightseeing but haven’t met any fans. Some fans just say hi as they pass by.

Sen: I was able to meet an old friend from Japan who recently moved here.

Q: What advice can you give aspiring female musicians who want to be VK artist? (To Rea)

A: Don’t think too much. Just do it!

Q: What is your opinion of the current music Scene in Japan?

Rea: I like it.

Sen: Not really. I’m in the midst of it.

Mj: Because of the tsunami last year CD sales and ticket sales are down. It's not as lively.

Q: Would you ever cosplay? And if so who would you cosplay?

Rea: I do. BlazBlue, Platinum

Sen: I don’t cosplay. I think that characters from Final Fantasy are cool and it inspires me.

MJ: If I had the muscle I would cosplay Berserk – Guts.

Q: Where do you see yourself, your music and what do you hope to achieve in the next 10 years?

Sen: I don’t know

Sen/Rea: Haven’t thought about it.

Sen: It’s more important to enjoy it now than to think of the future. Don’t even know what’s going to happen within the next year. So the next ten years is too far ahead.

Q: What message would you like to say to your fans?

Sen: Thank you for supporting us. We’re here because of fans. First time coming here so I want to have fun with the fans as a thank you.
