Interview with ADAPTER at Anime North

ADAPTER. (Fukusuke)

This past weekend (May25th - 27th) was Anime North and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend this year. If you read our previous posts you would already know that Lix, Marlee and ADAPTER. were all scheduald to performed there. Well, I was also lucky enough to be able to meet them and do a short interview with each band! I had a lot of fun asking these questions. They are all very nice and were happy to do the interview. ADAPTER. is really nice and sweet. He's very interesting to talk to and has some interesting answers. He's been in the indestry a bit longer so his views and answers are quite different. So enjoy!

Q: What made you want to become a musician?
A: When I was young I thought musicians were cool and I wanted to be one of them. I liked bands like X Japan and Boøwy.

Q: Was it difficult getting into music?
A: Before, I was a guitarist for a band. So the poses or stances (he means the way you rock a guitar durring a live) were more important than playing skill. I was worried whether I could show the audience what I wanted to. (In terms of skill)

Q: What did your family and friends think at first? And what do they think now?
A: A lot of students started music in High school so my parents were ok with it. It was during a band boom so it was normal. Now they are just really supportive.

Q: What is your favourite song to play?
A: It’s different for both sides for me and for the fans. As a performer I like “Fighting Road”. The fans like “Hajime no Ippo” the most.

Q: What influences your music?
A: Techno, new wave, VK, Japanese bands, P-Model, Kraft Work, Devo, and some not as well known bands.

Q: Who do you idolize?
A: Hirasawa, Susumu from P-Model.

Q: Do you like anime? If so then what is your favourite one? why?
A: I can’t really pick a favourite but I like Akira, I really like the manga artist. Also I like One Piece manga and of course Brave 10. (One of his new songs is used for Brave 10)

Q: Have you been able to do any sightseeing or meet any fans? If so what was the experience like?
A: I haven’t interacted with many fans but I have been having a lot of fun. I went to a club last night (Friday) and I had a lot of fun. I went to eat with people. I think Canada is a great place because I haven’t been out of Japan.

Q: What is your opinion of the current music scene in Japan?
A: I don’t understand why some people are famous. Like “why are they famous? I don’t understand?” It’s something that hasn’t changed in Japan. I still like it though.

Q: What was the process like trying to create your own unique sound?
A: I sit at home in front of my computer and just create music.

Q: Did you know Marlee and Lix before coming here?
A: Nope first time meeting them.

Q: What is it like having one of your songs being the theme song to an anime?
A: Well I’m very happy of course and I like the anime a lot too. I also got to meet with the manga artist.

Q: Would you ever cosplay? And if so who would you cosplay?
A: I don’t cosplay. Outfits I wear for performances it’s like cosplaying. I wore a maid outfit once. It wouldn’t zip up in the back; too small.

Q: Where do you see yourself, your music and what do you hope to achieve in the next 10 years?
A: The more famous you become the more you have to give up what you want to do. I’d like to keep doing what I want to do.

Q: What message would you like to say to your fans?
A: It’s my first time in Canada. I’m not sure how they will react for my performance. I hope everyone enjoys it and has a smile on their face. (Which they did)
