Shocking news today as it's been announced that the wildly popular KERA and Gothic & Lolita Bible publications will end their printing run this spring. KERA's last printed issue, for the month of June, will hit the shelves on April 15th. Afterwards, it will become digital-only.
According to its publishing company, J-International, the move to digital is a result of recognizing the changes of the publishing industry, and wanting to grow with and serve the smartphone generation with a new, comprehensive digital magazine and community. The first online issue will be available on May 16th. The planned May 24th issue of KERA's spinoff publication, Gothic & Lolita Bible, has also been suspended. There is no word as to whether or not it will be included in the digital publication.
KERA, with its tag line "The realest Harajuku Street Magazine," first hit the shelves in 1998. It quickly became a staple for street fashion and so much more along with its spinoff, Gothic & Lolita Bible (first published in 2001). Both showcased the latest trends, street snaps from Japan and around the world, and featured countless articles with many popular visual kei bands and artists, including the GazettE, Psycho le Cému, and Mana. Fans of both publications have quickly taken to social media to voice their opinions and concerns over this sudden change, so much so that for awhile it was an international trending topic on Twitter.
