Recently, Visual Kei Heaven had the opportunity to chat with bassist ShuU and guitarist Nii of girugamesh before their show in Munich, Germany on May 30th. In our first interview with the guys, we discuss their 10th anniversary, how the band has changed over time, and more. Nii even mentions the band's plans for a new release this year!
Check out what they have to say below!
VKH: Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions! Let's begin with the 10th
anniversary. How do you feel about being around for so long?
Nii: girugamesh basically started at point zero, so we are actually pretty shocked that we are still together after 10 years of activity. We all are very different people, so being in a band together is really overwhelming for us and we also are amazed to be where we are right now.

VKH: girugamesh has changed a lot since you debuted. How do you feel when reminiscing over the genesis of the band and your first releases?
Nii: Yes, things have definitely changed for us. What brought us to the point where we are now and what pushes us forward all the time is that we always aimed higher and higher.
ShuU: With every single thing we did and still do, we are trying to continue to improve ourselves.
VKH: If you were able to travel back in time, would there be something you would do
in a different way, like changing a song or recording whole singles and albums
again to improve them?
ShuU: Even if we were able to travel back in time, we would never change a song or release another single or album. Everything we did up to this point is girugamesh.
From now on, things are also going to be different because we are getting influenced by a lot of things around us and we are listening to a lot of music. Those factors simply affect our future.
So, whatever we have released and will release is us and that is never going to change.

VKH: You have had some overseas shows already. How have those been so far? Have you been enjoying yourselves and what were the fans' reactions?
Nii: Every show has been amazing, of course! We are happy to finally be back in Europe after three years and we can definitely feel that the fans have been waiting for us too. It's great that the people still appreciate our music as much as they did before.
VKH: Nearing the end of the tour, which stop has been your favorite so far? (Either
for the concert or the sightseeing)
Nii: Usually at the start of a tour, I'm a little worried, but this time I already thought in advance that it's going to be great, especially because we were touring in Japan before, so I already felt ready for it! So there is no particular stop I thought to be my favorite, since I already knew that everything would be amazing.

VKH: The name of the tour is MONSTER. Does it represent any particular theme and focus for this tour?
ShuU: Actually, there is no particular theme. It's just the name of the album MONSTER and a part of the release tour that already started in Japan. We pretty much want to present our new songs and the experiences that came along with them during this tour, so the name fits well in our opinion.
VKH: To commemorate your 10th anniversary as girugamesh, you released your album, LIVE BEST. How did you manage to choose the tracks for this best-of
album?
Nii: We took all of our songs from the first releases ever to the current ones and made a setlist with songs we thought to be the coolest girugamesh songs. That's how we decided on the tracklist.
VKH: Out of your entire discography, which song is your personal favorite to perform
live and why?
Nii: My favorite is "Mienai Kyori" from our album GO. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of playing guitar solos. However, on this album, there are a lot of songs with guitar solos and even though I don't like them so much in general, I'm enjoying the one in "Mienai Kyori" a lot, so it's my favorite to play live.
ShuU: For me, it's the song "evolution" which we made a video clip for a while ago!
VKH: Nii, you and Ryo recently revealed that you are brothers! Why did you decide to reveal that now? Why keep it a secret all this time?
Nii: Actually, it just never occured to us to make it public, keep it a secret, or anything. But after seven years, we thought, "hey, we came this far already and nobody, except for our bandmates, knows that we are brothers," so we decided to reveal it.
VKH: That's interesting! So we wonder if your fans can look forward to more surprises like this in the future?
Nii: Well, you never know what's going to come for us. Maybe it's going to be something very shocking, who knows! (laughs)
VKH: Oh, we are definitely looking forward to that! Do you have any other future plans you would like to share?
Nii: We will be going back home after this tour to work on a new CD which will be released in September. Afterwards, we will be touring in Japan. And hopefully, we will be able to come back overseas next year!
VKH: Thank you, again, for your time! Would you please send a message to your fans and our readers?
Nii: Since we will be releasing a new CD in September we hope to gain all our fans' support. Also, we hope everyone is able to see us live when we come back again, especially the ones who didn't make it to one of our overseas concerts of this year. We want to meet all of our overseas fans again! Thank you so much for your support!
Special thanks to Twisted Talent, Neo Tokyo and Gan-shin Records for making this interview possible!
