It's been a rough ride for Yoshiki's historic Crystal Piano, with fake bids and a temporary suspension for five days, but the auction has finally ended and the piano has sold for ¥11,001,000.
The auction began April 17th on Yahoo! Auctions Japan at a starting price of ¥1. When bids skyrocketed to an unbelievable ¥6 billion ($73 million/€50 million) on the 19th, Yahoo! temporarily suspended the auction to auction to confirm the credibility of bidders.
After all fake bids had been thrown out, the price of the piano dropped to ¥53,057,000 ($650,000/€445,000), and the auction reopened on the 25th for four more days of bidding. The winning bid was made at ¥11,001,000 ($135,000 USD/€91,000) on Thursday.
Money raised from the auction will be donated to 2011 Tohoku earthquake relief efforts.
