Yoshiki, in partnership with Kodansha, will be releasing a high art photo book on the artist’s birthday, November 20, 2020.
The “XY” photo book promises a “side to Yoshiki you have never seen before,” and features the iconic artist clad in high fashion in “dreamlike” settings.
The project brought on some of the world’s best creative talent, featuring photos shot by Melanie Pullen, whose work has been featured in VOGUE, Esquire, Elle, and more. The creative team also brought on Santa Bevacqua, an Italian celebrity stylist, Producer Sakiko Yamada, director Paul Lauren, and video producer Michael Marius.
Yoshiki is no stranger to high fashion. As a model, he was the first Japanese man to appear on the cover of VOGUE Japan, and more recently made an appearance on the cover of Numero TOKYO. He has also designed his own kimono collection, Yoshikimono, which opened the 2020 Tokyo Fashion Week. The collection later appeared in the Tokyo National Museum’s kimono exhibit.
The purchase of “XY” will include a stunning 96-page photo book and 30-minute behind-the-scenes DVD packaged in a specially designed cosmetic case.
Ahead of the book's release, fans can check out the “XY” photo book video on Yoshiki's official Youtube Channel for a taste of the stunning material included in the project.
In a statement about the work done for "XY," Yoshiki is quoted as saying:
“It may be weird for me to say this myself, but I still look good, and I think I can still keep going for a while,” YOSHIKI laughed. “But behind the scenes, I put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears—hopefully this’ll be the trigger to start releasing some music.”
While fans eagerly await the prolific musician's first photo book in 28 years, "XY" can currently preordered on Amazon, Rakuten, and CDJAPAN.
