SUGIZO will release the first live album of his solo career on September 30th, 2020. The album LIVE IN TOKYO pays tribute to legendary British post-punk band Public Image Limited (PiL).
PiL was formed by Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon in 1978. Lydon is perhaps most famously known by his stage name Johnny Rotten. SUGIZO's newest work shares the name of PiL's 1983 live album LIVE IN TOKYO.
In the Deluxe Edition album artwork for the release, SUGIZO perfectly recreated the iconic cover of Public Image Limited's LIVE IN TOKYO album—from the location in front of BIC Camera in Shinjuku to the glistening wet streets, PiL shirt, couple off to the side, and umbrella.
In another homage to PiL, both the 1983 and 2020 albums are composed of live performances held at Nakano Sunplaza in Tokyo. The soon-to-be released LIVE IN TOKYO album will be released as a two-disc set containing live recordings of all 20 songs performed at SUGIZO HALF CENTURY ANNIVERSARY FES. in 2019—celebrating SUGIZO's 50th birthday. The live featured special appearances by Kyo (DIR EN GREY, sukekiyo), TERU (GLAY), TAKURO (GLAY), Kiyoharu, and more.
LIVE IN TOKYO will be available in two editions: a Regular Edition and Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition will include live videos from the two-day performance and a special booklet containing a photobook with long interview. The Regular Edition retails for ¥3,850 (tax-included). The Deluxe Edition retails for ¥8,470 (tax-included).
Pre-orders for the Deluxe Edition will be made available to members of SUGIZO's official fan club SOUL'S MATE on September 16th, 2020. More information is available here.
