As for the Grammy award buzz? MIYAVI's song "Long Nights feat. Sonita" is currently on the ballot for the 61st Annual Grammys in the category "Best Rock Performance/Rock Song." Long Nights is an emotional song with lyrics (written by Afghan refugee rapper Sonita) illustrating the frustrations and experience of a refugee. Released first in English on Samurai Sessions vol.2 in November 2017, the song was extremely well received. It was later re-recorded as "Long Nights (World Mix)" for an EP in Sonita's native language, Farsi, for an emotional remixed release in April 2018.
The Recording Academy's Voting Members (comprised of music creators and previously nominated industry professionals) will be the ones to ultimately decide what gets nominated. This is just the first step in voting for the final nominees, which will be revealed on December 5th. MIYAVI's staff have asked fans to help spread the word on "Long Nights feat. Sonita" in hopes that it can, indeed, become a nominee!
MIYAVI had this to say about the news:
The first song I wrote after I came back from a refugee camp in Lebanon. Featured Sonita a strong rap artist who I respect. One of the most important songs in my career. Thank you all for your support 🙏🏻🙏🏻😌
We wish MIYAVI and his team the best of luck! To support MIYAVI, be sure to share the official music video around.
