In February 2016, Sakura-Con invited fashion designer Takeshi Kunitomo to bring the fashion brand gouk to their runway. Founded by Kunitomo in 2001, gouk has upheld the concepts of harmony and recognition of Japan's cultural roots.
The audience was seated at a serene stage, and under pale blue lighting the first model made her entrance. gouk's collection did not hold back on its vision, and each modeled outfit carried out another reference to elegance and traditional style. With bold shapes and concepts, these pieces are not for the fashion cautious. In ensembles that were almost somber, a collar, cuff or border done in a bright and intricate pattern would stand out as a stark highlight. Several gouk pieces would suit a punk inclined or gothic wardrobe, but none can be alienated from the core concept of Japanese tradition.
