LIVE REPORT: Anime Expo 2015 Fashion Show

In July, Anime Expo held what could be there most epic Fashion Show to date. They had an awesome line-up of different brands of Japanese clothing hit their runway, celebrated My Melody's 40th Anniversary, and were graced with guest-of-honor &  rock-star drummer, Shinya of DIR EN GREY for h.NAOTO along with guests, Kimura U  for Japan LA as well as DJ HEAVYGRINDER for galaxxxy. Also, Gothic Lolita Wigs/Rockstar Wigs was present to sponsor the show. You can thank them for all of that color going on for the models' hair. Anyways, read on to see what went down during the show!

Harajuku Kawaii Boy and guest, JUNNYAN, hosted the show and kept the audience laughing in between the sets. Read here to learn more on this elite fashionista from Japan.

Japanese pop culture retailer, JapanLA started off the show. They featured Sanrio characters and others (like Pokemon, Simpsons, & etc.) transformed into Sanrio-like figures in their pieces. This line was very colorful and very fun. It ranged from over-sized tees and tank tops to dresses and sweaters. The style can be worn by fun-loving individuals who can be feminine & even sporty. Kimura U, the Japanese Ambassador of Cute, returned to AX this year and modeled for the line, as well. And Rilakkuma also made a very cute appearance in the end!

Next up, returnee Liz Lisa showcased many lovely feminine dresses. The collection featured a lot of ruffles and looked like it was made for the modern day princess out on walk on a Sunday afternoon.

galaxxxy was third on the list to strut their stuff. The brand features a lot of color with a twist of punk. They remained very Japanese with their artwork designed after or to look like Japanese styled drawings. Over-sized tees paired with funky shorts and big skirts seems to be the repeating theme in the collection. But they also have a lot of equally eye-catching accessories all you video game fanatics may not want to miss out on. This line is for the loud crowd who can rock the clothes with awesome sneakers or chunky combat boots. They also had guest DJ HEAVYRINDER model for them and open their set.

For all you Gothic lolita and steampunk fans, h.NAOTO was next on the runway! As if it came straight out of history books or your video games, this line takes all of that and brings it to life, but only better! The detail on each outfit is astonishing with a mix of lace, leather, tulle and even frills. The concept that seems to repeat itself are the beautiful corsets, so if you need one you might want to look more into this. What captured my heart entirely was the "bridal wear" created with such a romantic feel, but of course, with the punk theme, "stained" with blood. It was enchanting and gruesome at the same time. It also matched the shirt Naoto, himself, wore at the finale'. You can read our interview with this fantastic designer here. And by the way, you may have already noticed the star of the show, SHINYA of DIR EN GREY, who made his modelling debut with this line in this show. His body structure was made for a model, but it was icy stare that made him the super model he is. SHINYA clearly represented the brand well.

Last but not least, My Melody also made its way to the show in collaboration with JapanLA in celebration of it's 40th year! The line consisted of very feminine outfits, mostly dresses, with My Melody all over. Another line made that modern day princess, but with a special love of My Melody of course! Once again, Kimura U rocked the runway hitting everyone with her kawaii-ness for this set.
