This year American Jrock band akai SKY is celebrating their 10th anniversary! To commemorate the event, the band has opened a new website at AmericanJrock.com, started an official Twitter account at @AmericanJrock, and even uploaded new artist photos. They will hold their 10th Anniversary Celebration on August 23rd in San Francisco, CA. Tickets will be $10 - more information can be found here.
“When we started this band 10 years ago, I never would have imagined we’d get to the point we’d be celebrating this milestone. We’ve overcome lots of challenges along the way, but I’m proud of the way this group has banded together to get through them and constantly seeks to outdo ourselves and accomplish bigger and better things. In addition to all of these amazing things, akai SKY have uploaded their first-ever music video on YouTube and will be releasing a new EP titled Chasing Lights! Chasing Lights will be released in Deluxe Edition and Regular on August 23rd, the very same day of their celebration. The Regular edition will feature a 4-track CD, but the deluxe edition will hold a number of features including a deluxe booklet (with Japanese, romaji, and English translations of the lyrics), a poster, and much more! ABOUT akai SKY:
10 years ago the band started off as a bunch of kids who came together to play covers of their favorite Jrock songs and anime themes. They soon realized that covers just wasn't enough, and decided that they would have to create something new to quench their musical thirst.
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, akai SKY is advancing American J-Rock music by continuing to merge influences from both countries and molding a new and exciting Rock-fueled music genre.
akai SKY was formed in 2005 by guitarist Hayashi and bassist Umi. Vocalist Ryuusei and drummer Jinra joined the band in 2008. We have performed over 70 shows at venues and events celebrating Asian and American culture and music across the United States.
They have self-produced two EPs - Heart, Attack! in March 2013 and Tokyo Beat Riot in 2010. In 2014, they became the first American J-Rock band - and one of just 47 Japanese-language Pop and Rock artists - to play on Pandora radio. In 2012, they contributed a song to “Vivid Covers,” a 20th anniversary tribute album to the internationally acclaimed J-Rock band L’Arc~en~Ciel.
