INTERVIEW: WEAVER's Press Conference in Singapore

Today, we will reporting to you the events of WEAVER when they came down for Skechers Sundown Festival 2014! In case any of you may not know, Sundown Festival (SF) is an annual festival that has been ongoing in Singapore for the 6th year and still counting! It brings together not just different genres of music, but also languages! For Japanese section, the past years we would see top Visual-Kei bands coming over but this year, they broke the norm and invited WEAVER! Just last year, Screw & D=OUT came down and we actually had a interview with them. You can view them here and also here respectively!

Anyway back to topic, we shall proceed with the Press Conference (PC) that we were honored to be invited to attend! The PC was held at Park Royal Hotel @ Kitchener Road in it's Emerald Ballroom. On that day, considering the fact that there were a lot of Asian artistes, there would definitely be a lot of media covering. The ballroom was completely filled and everyone was waiting for the press conference to begin.

Just before press conference starts!

First up, we had Singapore's local rap star ShiGGa Shay, followed by Korean boy group CROSS GENE! All of the excitement over CROSS GENE doesn't die down immediately as who we would be seeing is... WEAVER!

As WEAVER entered the ballroom, cheers were roaring out for each individual members. They took their seat based on the respective name labels on the table and the Q&A session began shortly.

One by one, they entered the ballroom and were all sitted down, ready for the questions be asked.

1: You all graduated from one of the top schools in Japan and now you have also finished studies in UK. Could you share with us what you have studied in UK and also why did you choose to focus on music as your career?

Yuji: We studied English in high school before but it was not enough to communicate, thus we went to UK to improve ourselves. In UK, we went to different language schools and lived in different place. It was a good experience for us. Regarding our career, the reason for me especially is I am not good with communicating by language. Same goes with communicating with English. Music is an alternative way of expressing myself. Therefore I chose to sing.

They then introduced themselves individually with Toru unable to find his mic *laughter*.

2: Will we be seeing WEAVER performing English songs this year?

Yuji: Yes, of course! Some of our songs are written in English and we will perform these songs tomorrow. Please look forward to listen to the songs.

WEAVER posed with questions.

3: Why did you decide to make WEAVER as a piano-rock-band unlike all the other electric-guitar-rock-band that are around nowadays?

Shota: I think we had that chance. Eight years ago, we were playing a gig in local music house and there was a very good manager. We met him when I was around 13 years old. At that time, Yuji and another member were playing guitars. But when we graduated from high school, the other member decided to leave. He wanted to set up his own company. We could not continue to perform. So we decided to find a solution. That manager advised me to change our style. We didn't want to be guitar rock band. It wasn't our style. When we tried our first live as piano rock and, the live was really good, the audience was really happy.

Toru: I think if we didn't change, we wouldn't have been able to debut in Japan.

The emcee then opened up for the audience to ask more questions for them and they include:

4:  You came to Singapore two years ago. What was your first impression? And in your blog in MTV there's something about wanting to come back here, can you please share your feeling or experience so far?

Shota: We felt that everything is very comfortable to Japanese. The food are similar and the buildings are beautiful. I remember when we were at London, we ate all the food and the food was terrible (I actually think he meant that the food was hard to adapt for them, not literally terrible). Singapore's food is very comfortable for us. I love Singapore very much.

Toru: This is the fourth time for us to come to Singapore and every time we come here we can find new buildings like the Aquarium and Botanical Garden (which I believe actually meant "Gardens by the Bay"). I think this country is very energetic in developing and it encourages us to work hard.

The emcee then ended it off by asking them to sign the "Skechers Sundown Festival" T-Shirt, before having a short photo session.

So that concludes the Q&A session and let's cut the chase and proceed with the performance day itself!
