Sad news for fans of amber gris--the band made it known earlier this week that following their May 27th performance at Akasaka Blitz, they will be disbanding. Each member posted a comment in the band's official blog on their site, explaining their feelings behind the split.
Vocalist Temari started it off:
Thank you, and sorry, and... On the other hand, for me to say this is very unpleasant, that's something I will leave to the other members, something I can leave to them with ease of mind. The end of what I've been doing with amber gris has come. It's something that's been said since our formation, something we believed; that we would greet our end in such a fashion, the way it should be. The beautiful, the ugly; the strong and the weak; the gentle, the strict; to laugh, to cry; to get angry, and laugh again. The warmth and the cold; to snuggle up, and to pull away; to love, to hate; to pray, and to rebel; to wish for, and to spit. To wake, and to sleep. Just like a person, this [band's] lifetime is coming to an end. Or, its presence entrusted to each person to go on forever. At least, within the five of us, it will live on. We only have a little bit of time left together, I need to prepare for the end. I don't mind acting a fool for you, but I don't want to be thought of as one. How much longer 'til the land of the blessed? Who might be waiting on the other side? Are the hungry little chicks the only ones who fall without flying?Guitarist kaname:
Just as movies and anime, and comics all have their endings, the story of amber gris will come to a close after 5 1/2 years, on May 27th at Akasaka Blitz. Unquestionably painful thoughts haunt me in relation to the word 'disbandment,' so please understand that I feel it's best to leave you all with the memories and the works of amber gris as we've been known for; that is the true sense of what amber gris is for me. Now, it's time to start the 'sequel' to amber gris. It is a story that has many, many people in it; we hope you'll feel the outcome of it all within you, and wish for something that can be left behind. Please forgive each member of amber gris, so each of us can continue to be loved long after this. Members and fans, amber gris has such a presence to me. I want this to be perfect for there is love; please, don't think of this as me being selfish. Ah, I really love amber gris, and all of you 'Frannies' [fans].
Followed by guitarist wayne, who recited the classical poem Iroha:
Although its scent still lingers on, the form of a flower has scattered away. For whom will the glory, of this world remain unchanged? Arriving today at the yonder side, of the deep mountains of evanescent existence. We shall never allow ourselves to drift away, intoxicated, in the world of shallow dreams. People still live on, even when all hope is gone. Use the name, and see. Call it by name, shout it and see. For it only exists, if there is someone there to call it by name.Bassist Koto continued:
The time has come to end our activities. If there is a beginning, there is surely an ending; now at that time, we will all bring forth the conclusion together. We only have a short 3 months left, but in this time I want us to have the richest, most fulfilling times together that we've ever had. Like an everlasting, revolving lantern, a solid time. Please watch over our five lights, and please let us hear all of your voices. We'll answer in full force.Drummer Rami finished with:
To my dearest Franny; I have to leave soon. I want to spend every moment until then with you, Franny. We'll sit in our garden and chat, right? So, please stay here with me.
The band's last single will come out on April 15th, with 3 songs included, for 1,500yen. No other details on the release have been provided at this time, however, information for their final tour has been posted.
