As we reported earlier this year, MAXIMUM THE HORMONE is coming back to the US for the first time in 6 years to perform at KNOTFEST in California on October 25th. In addition to that appearance, they are hitting up New York City's Best Buy Theater on October 27th for a headlining show, and they're bringing along up-and-coming metal band Unlocking the Truth to open up.
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE released their 5th album, Yoshuu Fukushuu ("Our Merciless Home'war'k") in 2013. Yoshuu Fukushuu's release included a 156-page manga with five stories created by guitarist Maximum the Ryokun, all based on crazy adventures from his school days. With songs full of heavy metal riffs and screaming vocals, the album hit #1 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and stayed there for 3 weeks. To support the album, the band embarked on a sold-out 56-stop tour as well as made an appearance at Ozzfest.
Unlocking the Truth is a Brooklyn-based trio made up of Malcolm Brickhouse (vocals & guitar, 13), Alec Atkins (bass, 13), and Jarad Dawkins (drums, 12). They may be young, but they have already rocked out with some of the biggest names in heavy metal, including Guns 'n' Roses and Motorhead. The young men have grown up going to metal shows and site musicians Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Justin Foley (Killswitch Engage), and Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) as some of their biggest inspirations. The band's name comes from one of their original songs, explains Brickhouse:
"The truth is that kids don’t realize that they can do what they want to do; they don’t have to follow the rest of the crowd. We’re showing them that to be yourself is the truth.”Dawkins adds:
"Our music is ‘custom’ metal. It’s different from what you’d hear by a regular metal band, mainly because how young we are, and because we have a positive movement; we’re about inspiring people to do what they want to do.”Having already performed at such big events as Coachella and getting signed to Cherry Party/Sony in partnership with Artery this past January, Atkins says:
