FASHION: Nisei Week

It's Nisei Week at Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. For those that never heard of Nisei Week, it's a nine day long festival commemorating Japanese Americans second generation and on. It officially started this past Saturday, August 10, and will continue on until this Sunday, August 18.
During this festival there are many events that attendees can participate in. Such as: gyoza eating contest, Tanabata festival, tea ceremonies and even a cosplay contest!
The day that I went, this past Sunday, the main attraction was the grand parade. Which lasted from 4-9 PM. Just like with any parade it featured important people, usual mayors or councilmen, riding in convertibles. Even the mayor of Nagoya, our sister city, participated in the parade. The grand parade also featured traditional Japanese music, dancing, taiko, this year's royal court, cosplayers, and even a Mikoshi!
Poel, the bassist for Moon Stream, was even there to perform. Unfortunately, I went to the wrong location and missed it.
What I loved most about attending these festivals (other than the food) is seeing what kind of clothes other people are wearing. The looks of that day ranged from civilian clothing, to yukata, and cosplay. But, surprisingly, not a lot of visual kei.
One of the few visual kei
Some of the many cosplayers

My outfit was relatively simple, as it was something that I pulled together the night before. I also wanted the outfit to be light and simple just in case there was a large crowd. Nothing worse than bulky clothes when squished in with other people. It's also easy to re-create so try it out!
Components of this outfit:
  • Grey crop top (made by me)
  • Black lace high-low tank
  • Fishnet leggings
  • Black shorts (low waist preferable)
  • A pair of boots
  • And finally accessorize and makeup to match!
