HOSHI★FURU is a band based in Canada and originally began with a visual kei influenced in 2008. They went through constant line-up changes during this period with the only consistent members being Maria on vocals and Nan on guitar, having recently welcomed Nick on bass and Danny on drums as official members in 2012. Although over the years they began to lose their visual kei, they remained influence by Japanese rock as a whole as well as picking up other genres such as hardcore punk, metal, and screamo.
Their influences in the Japanese music scene include LUNA SEA, DIR EN GREY,and Utada Hikaru while their strong western influences are Comeback Kid and Underoath. Nan composes all of the music and Maria writes all of the lyrics and creates most of the vocal melodies and screams.
HOSHI★FURU only began to take activities seriously in 2012 and were signed to the independent record label Underly shortly after releasing a free downloadable single entitled "Hatsukoi", which is a punk cover of Utada Hikaru's "First Love". They released their self-titled debut EP in March 2013, which includes the songs "Anata, "Sono Hibi Deshita", "Hitoribocchi", "Kiwoong Kim", and "Starfall Paradise" as well as their first PV "Kiwoong Kim" shortly after the release of their self-titled debut EP in March 2013.
HOSHI★FURU have been performing at anime conventions across Ontario and Quebec, which includes an appearance at Canada's premier fan run anime convention Anime North in 2012 and, thanks to J-Rock North Promotions, they will be performing at Anime North for a second year in a row on Friday, May 24th
