REVIEW: Golden Bomber - The Golden Best (UK Edition)

Golden Bomber, a band who rose rapidly to reknown by releasing single after single and performing regular live shows, have managed to break out of Japan and create a release of their latest album for various countries around the world. This review is of the UK edition, so readers in other countries would find some variation in the tracks on their own copies.

13 女々しくて -English Version-

Starting off the album, we're greeted by the band's pop/rock infusion with some slightly heavy drum and guitar work and lighter synths and vocals. We move through into the very well-known and popular 女々しくて (memeshikute), which spawned a hilarious K-pop themed PV and version. The English version of this track is essentially the same with very unclear English as is common in many Visual Kei bands less well-versed in the language.

The music is catchy and it's easy to see why the band became such a huge deal both in Japan and the world over. It is also very easy listening with gentle, well-formed vocals and many softer-sounding instrumental pieces.

Fans of the scene can expect to find something they like in this album with faster, jazzier songs; some fairly heavy songs considering the band and soft, piano-heavy pieces. Vocally, Shou has quite a well-projected voice so these softer songs are much more powerful.

It is nice to see a band bothering to make separate releases for different countries around the world with exclusive content. Not only are Golden Bomber striving to have global recognition, they want their fans outside of Japan to feel important, too, and this is a very fresh approach. Hopefully many other bands will follow suit.

With such a rapid growth, this band seems to have a bright future but they must strive to keep up the high standards they have set themselves in terms of releases and live shows. Their spread globally means it is very easy to find and purchase their music from local music shops, Amazon, iTunes and CDJapan. So, please support the artists for their hard work.
