REVIEW: -OZ- – Rouge

-OZ- have been in the Visual Kei scene for a very long time, but surprisingly have only released two full-length albums in their many years. Needless to say, they polish their works before releasing them on albums and their fans are willing to wait for them.

With a staggering thirteen tracks on this album, it certainly is enough to satiate the needs of fans for a time to come in between single releases and live tours. –OZ- have certainly not disappointed with this album in terms of style and length.
The album has a few styles within, some slower songs appear such as “Rain Delay” and “Sky high” as well as their signature heavier songs coined “Loud-kei” by some fans. The songs still transition between Natsuki’s singing and deeper growls as their previous releases.
Musically, the album is very sound. The band have not strayed too far from their roots or experimented with many newer sounds but this may be just because they have found their sound already.
The themes of this album are quite obscured sometimes within the music but lyrically they seem to be love, or rather, unrequited love and other such romantic notions. Some of the slower songs feel like they get the feelings across more than the heavier ones, but the lyrics are what make the heavier songs more understandable.
Certainly, –OZ- have a big future ahead of them with releases such as this one as well as upcoming singles and other releases. 2011 is shaping up to be an interesting year for –OZ- and Visual Kei bands, alike.

  1. I absolutely adore this band ever since I happed upon them. Funnily enough, as I type this I am listening to their previous album VERSUS, which is also a stunning piece of work. Natsuki’s vocals are absolutely amazing.
