Hey everyone ^_^ I'm super psyched and you should know why. It's time for this month's VK Style to Try...yes its also the first one >_<. Aaaand this month's look is, drum-roll please, the well known Lolita Goth. For those of you who don't know GothLoli (ゴスロリ) it is, in its simplest form, a dark spin on the cute, Victorian doll style of dress, common among some of our favorite Visual and Oshare Kei rockers.
For example there's:
Vo. 真白- Mashiro (in PaRADEiS' Onigokko PV)
At a glance GothLoli may seem complicated and difficult to reproduce, but it really isn't all that hard.
Oufit (Use dark colors for the base - black, purples, dark blues):
- Things you need:
- A dark colored lolita dress (a victorian styled frilled dress that stops at or above your knees, It can have long sleeves, or short puffed sleeves) or a frilled short skirt and corset top. If you don't have a corset top u can wear a dark lace top, or make you own corset using plain fabric and lace pieces that can be gotten at any fabric / textile store at around $3.00 - $7.00 a yard depending on the width and quality. You can also buy the fasteners, ribbons and pellon required for stiffening. (I may post later on exactly how to make the corset)
An Example:
http://www.fanplusfriend.com offers a number of lolita stlyed clothes and accessories for very reasonable prices considering how great most of them are.
- Preferably thigh high (but can be knee high or full length) stockings, lace or plain.
- Platform shoes (preferably whole and with buckles) or laced boots
- Headwear - a big low; lolita top-hat;hair band with lace, bows or other paraphernalia; or lolita crown will work
- Gloves - kid gloves or arm length, fitted gloves if you have short sleeves (fingerless gloves look particularly good)
- Ribbons and bows to accessorize (use a light color to contrast the dark such as white, pink or a light version of the base color)
I'm pretty sure you all know how to put together the outfit from here so i'll just add some tips for accessorizing.
- Firstly make you you choose colors that look good together, especially if you are using more than three (e.g. black, dark pink, light pink, and white). For GothLoli don't make the combinations too loud.
- Add small ribbons or bows to the top of your stockings if they are knee or thigh high.
- If you have laced boots, replace the laces with ribbon
- If the skirt or bottom of the dress is very plain add bits of ribbon to highlight it
- Wear one or two bangles / bracelets but keep them simple (preferably cloth types)
- A bow around your neck is pretty
- Use dark make-up on a lightened base for your face
- Extended lashes are a good idea
- For your haid use loose drop curls, and bangs. Don't curl all your hair though, leave a few pieces in between straight.
- Tilt your headdress to one side of your head to achieve a cuter look
Make-up:
I'm adding the following video by Bloodmyer. In she demonstrates how to achieve the hair and makeup for one of Mana~sama's GothLoli looks, and i couldn't do it better myself.
Here are a few more Visual Kei rockers that have used the Loltia Goth style :3. Any of Your favs among them? ^_^
