What is Visual Kei?
By definition..."Visual kei (ヴィジュアル系) refers to a movement among Japanese musicians, that is characterized by the use of eccentric, sometimes flamboyant looks. This usually involves striking make-up, unusual hair styles and elaborate costumes, often, but not always, coupled with androgynous aesthetics. Some sources state that Visual Kei refers to a music genre, or to a sub-genre of J-rock (a term referring to Japanese rock in general), with its own particular sound, related to glam-rock, punk and metal, and with strong emphasis on its unique style of dress; and some sources state that Visual Kei's unique clothing and make-up fashions, and participation in the related sub-culture, is equally as important as the sound of the music itself in the use of the term."

In simple terms Visual Kei is a Japanese style of Fashion and Rock. Visual Kei also loosely translates too Visual Scene or Visual Type of Style. The fashion is just as important as the music.
Visual kei started in the 1980's and sense has become very popular world wide thanks to bands like X-Japan, Malice Mizer and Dir En grey.
Why like Visual Kei?
I would say personally that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and every one has there own taste in music. So the reason why I love visual kei so much is because of the style and how it fits the music. To me the visual style is a unique artistic extension of expression from the musical artist's within each visual kei band. But I am speaking from my own personal thoughts and feelings about visual kei. For others it may be different reason and that's perfectly alright.
